Shoulders and Hips- Do your hips always feel tight? Is there tension in your shoulders, neck or low back? Do you have pain in your knees or wrists? This two part series will help you improve how your body functions and reduce pain in and around the major joints of the body. Whether it’s due to injury, tension, inflammation or stress, the discomfort can range from slight to excruciating. This workshop will provide you with principles of movement you can apply to your daily life and other physical activities to reduce pain, increase energy and stamina. You will gain awareness of postural habits, a better understanding of when to slow down and when to push yourself, and cultivate healthier movement patterns. This two part workshop series will benefit anyone from “I’m fine but sometimes I get this pain in my wrist” to “I’m constantly in pain”. This is geared towards anyone who really wants to build a solid foundation for their yoga practice, deepen their mind body connection, reduce pain and strain, and gain a better understanding of the body’s biomechanics.Go
Session 1- January 12th
In this series we discover the principals of stoking the relaxation response in the mind, body and breath. Postures in this series will be supportive of the entire back/spine with the focus of calming the respiratory system allowing the body to find it’s own ebb and flow with every inhale and exhale.
Session 2 – January 26th
Supported Spinal Twists
In this series we personalize our own level of twist within the thoracic spine while maintaining a relaxed and sleep like state. Postures include gentle supine twist with full body support to ensure that the body is landing without having to manipulate or change the breath or restrict the diaphragm.
Session 3 – February 9th
In this series we play with finding a comfortable level of curvature in the lumbar spine while maintaining full support of the thoracic and cervical spine. This series opens are
mind that there is a much more gentle way of approaching backbends and displays how small changes in the body can redirect the breath and reset energy in the body.
Session 4 – February 23rd
In this series we look at different ways of finding “final rest” with complete support of the body to decrease compression points. Even better than when you sleep on your side at
nighttime, we provide support to specific areas of the body to maintain the neutral curvature of the spine and create a cradle for the shoulders to decrease shoulder compression.
